Charles R. Hoffmann Installed as President of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association
Syosset, New York – May 14, 2013. Hoffmann & Baron, LLP announces that Charles R. Hoffmann, Esq. is being installed as the President of the prestigious New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA) for the years 2013-2014 on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.
Charles R. Hoffmann, co-founder of Hoffmann & Baron, LLP, is being installed as President of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Mr. Hoffmann’s installation is the first time an attorney from a Long Island Intellectual Property law firm will be installed and serve as the President of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association. Mr. Hoffmann has previously served on the Board of Directors and as an Officer of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association since 2002.
Mr. Hoffmann’s long and distinguished career began in New York City at the renowned Intellectual Property firm of Kane, Dalsimer, and Kane where he became an equity partner in 1969. He moved his practice to Long Island and in 1984 founded the firm which is now Hoffmann & Baron, LLP. Along the way Mr. Hoffmann has had the opportunity to represent marquis clients including notables such as Becton Dickinson & Co., American Standard, Boars Head Provisions, and, more recently, Festo AG & KG of Germany and Festo U.S.
Mr. Hoffmann is most famous for his lead counsel role in the landmark Intellectual Property case of the Shoketsu Kinzoku Kogyo Kabushiki Co., Ltd. Corporation and SMC Pneumatics, Inc., well known to the Intellectual Property community as the Festo case. In the Festo case, the Supreme Court reversed a finding by the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit of absolute estoppel based on amendment to patent claims during the obtaining of a patent. If permitted to stand, the Court of Appeals holding would have virtually eliminated entirely the doctrine of equivalents from the range of remedies available in patent infringement cases.
Since its inception, Hoffmann & Baron, LLP has been a leading full-service intellectual property law firm which specializes in prosecution, counseling, licensing and litigation of patent, trademark, and copyright-related issues worldwide. The firm’s practice also includes trade secrets, technology transfer, and unfair competition. Based in Syosset, New York with offices in Parsippany, New Jersey, Hoffmann & Baron, LLP provides national and international clients with a distinguished level of service due to the strong legal experience, and technical and academic credentials of the partners and associates.
