Hoffmann & Baron Prevails Before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board on Behalf of LEONHARD KURZ Stiftung & Co., KG
Hoffmann & Baron successfully represented Patent Owner LEONHARD KURZ Stiftung & Co., KG (“KURZ”) in a post grant review proceeding (PGR2026-00011) before the U.S. Patent Trail and Appeal Board.
In an Order dated March 23, 2026, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Director John Squires denied post grant review of KURZ’ U.S. Patent No. 12,220,935, entitled “Decorative Foil, Method for Producing a Decorative Foil and Method for Decorating a Target Substrate,” because it was demonstrated that Petitioner, UNIVACCO Technology Inc., failed to show that it was more likely than not that at least one of the challenged claims of the KURZ patent was unpatentable. Given the strength of its ‘935 patent, KURZ was optimistic it could successfully withstand UNIVACCO’s challenge before the U.S. Patent Trail and Appeal Board.
Steven T. Zuschlag and John T. Gallagher represented LEONHARD KURZ Stiftung & Co., KG in this post grant review proceeding.
