The article, “How to Get a Copyright in 3 Simple Steps”, in Forbes Advisor, discussed the benefits of applying for copyright protection as well as supplying the steps necessary to obtain one. Scola stressed the importance of protecting your business.
Scola defined what a copyright is and the benefits and protections it offers. A copyright is a legal protection for “original works of authorship” that are fixed in tangible form, meaning they are written, recorded, drawn, photographed or saved in physical or digital format.
The copyright registration process, while intimidating, is an easier process than it seems according to Scola and they possess significant legal benefits. “If you are in an industry where you have close competitors who are doing similar things, if there is even a chance of infringement, you should file a copyright registration.” Protecting your ideas and your business from infringement should be a top priority given the low cost and high legal value.
